Graham McGinnis, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Biography
Dr. Graham McGinnis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences. He completed his doctoral training at Auburn University in exercise physiology and postdoctoral training at the University of Alabama and Birmingham Center for Exercise Medicine. Dr. McGinnis joined 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2018, and runs the Exercise Physiology & Integrated Chronobiology (EPIC) Lab. His research uses human and animal models and focuses on how the 24-hours cycles in physiological processes, known as circadian rhythms, impact the physiological response to exercise. In particular, the lab is interested in how exercise can be specifically timed to maximize training adaptations in the heart and skeletal muscle. Dr. McGinnis's current research focuses on a novel form of circadian rhythm disruption called 'Social Jetlag,' and is funded by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the NIH.
Students interested in gaining research experience in molecular and applied exercise physiology research are encouraged to reach out to learn about lab activities.
