Biography
Mayra Alejandra Jones-Betancourt, MD, assistant professor in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Department of Pediatrics, completed her residency training at the University of Southern California in 2018 and worked as a general pediatrician in Los Angeles before relocating to Nevada.
The first person in her family to attend college – she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley where she studied environmental biology with an emphasis on human health – she attended the University of California, Davis for medical school where she was involved with student-run clinics and the Latino Medical Student Association.
Dr. Jones-Betancourt has an interest in working with medically underserved populations and promoting community involvement. With a passion for increasing underrepresented students in medicine and academia, she has been involved with quality improvement projects including creating teaching material for patients in Spanish.
Dr. Jones-Betancourt has also served on various leadership roles within the Latino Medical Student Association, including as a liaison for the mentorship of first-generation college students.
