Biography

Dr. Irwin is the S.J. Hall Faculty Fellow in Economics and an associate professor in the department. He also serves as the Research Director at the Lied Center for Real Estate where he leads the Center’s work on public-facing policy briefs and rigorous academic research. He specializes in the fields of housing, environmental, and urban economics with his work often appearing in internationally recognized journals including the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Land Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Research, the Journal of Regional Science, and Regional Science and Urban Economics. His research examines behavioral spillovers in homeowner decision-making and how the housing market responds to information shocks related to environmental hazards or changes in public goods. His commentary and research is oft-featured in national and local media outlets, including NBC News, Wired, Politico, the New York Post, the Las Vegas Review- Journal, KNPR’s State of Nevada, and the Associated Press, among many others.
