Biography

Ms. Shona Rue is a clinical instructor and senior lecturer for the School of Nursing. She has chaired MSN capstone committees and MSN thesis committees. Her research interests are nursing education and pediatrics.

Ms. Rue served as the faculty advisor for the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ chapter of the Student Nurses Association for 15+ years and currently provides nursing presentations and outreach activities within the community and the Clark County School District. She is an active volunteer with the Stop the Bleed program. Additionally, she is a member of the Student Affairs Council, and serves on the CSCLV Faculty Advisory Board and the SON Equity, Inclusion, and Justice task force.

Expertise

Ms. Rue is a nationally certified pediatric nurse practitioner with the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) and a nationally certified nurse educator.

Classes Taught

Ms. Rue currently teaches undergraduate courses and labs in health assessment, pediatrics, and community nursing clinicals. She has taught online courses in the RN-BSN program and the MSN program.

Education Background

Ms. Rue completed her pre-nursing/pre-health at the University of Oregon and went on to earn her SN from Oregon Health Sciences University. She later received her master of science in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Research or Scholarship

Ms. Rue’s research interests are nursing education and pediatrics.

Awards, recognitions, or group affiliations

Ms. Rue is the recipient of both the 2006 and 2015 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ SON Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

She is also a fellow member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), as well as a certified nurse educator with the National League for Nursing (NLN) and an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International — Gamma Omega Chapter and Zeta Kappa Chapter.
