Biography

Dr. Sukanta Maitra, an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, specializes in spine surgery. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he earned a master’s degree at Boston University prior to completing his medical training at Albany (NY) Medical College.

He completed his orthopaedic residency at University of California, Davis Medical Center, and further specialized with a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Utah.

Dr. Maitra moved to Las Vegas in 2016 to help build the only allopathic orthopaedic residency in the state of Nevada. He is dedicated to educating and training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons to be thoughtful, ethical, and highly skilled.

Dr. Maitra performs treatment for degenerative conditions of the neck and back as well as pediatric and adult reconstructive procedures for conditions that include scoliosis, and physical deformities. In addition to doing revision surgery and treating infections and tumors of the spine, Dr. Maitra also treats spine trauma at the UMC Trauma Center.

His goal is to provide the highest level of care and compassion to his patients as well as providing sound evidence-based research to support clinical decision making.

His research has been presented at national meetings for spine surgeons, including the Lumbar Spine Research Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons).
