Emergency Preparedness
Be RebelSAFE
Like any community, we are not immune to natural and man-made disasters. Faculty, staff, students and families must collaborate to plan and prepare for these types of emergencies.
The Office of Emergency Management strives to keep the campus prepared for all types of hazards, ensuring that personnel are trained to respond and building campuses and community resilience for quicker recovery.
Together, we can #BeRebelSAFE in 4 easy steps:
- Stay informed
- Develop an emergency plan
- Build an emergency supply kit
- Get involved
Our department is committed to the safety and security of all Southern NSHE properties. Since the tragedies that occurred at Virginia Tech in 2007 and the 1 October shooting that impacted our campus, our department has risen to the challenge posed by these threats and has:
- Developed an Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.), a standing body of decision-makers who gather in a designated place to make critical decisions that will allow the university to transition back to a normal state following a critical incident.
-
Established RebelSAFE Alert, the emergency notification system used for incidents that present an imminent threat to life, health or safety to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students, employees, faculty, and community members. RebelSAFE Alert messages provide emergency information and instructions to protect yourself during an emergency. In the event of an emergency, RebelSAFE Alert will send emails, text messages, post to University Police Services and , push notifications to the RebelSAFE Mobile App, and provide audio and visual warnings to , digital advertising kiosks, RebelSAFE Emergency Phones, and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ websites.
- Worked closely with county, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies on a continuous basis through the Joint Terrorism Task Force (J.T.T.F.).
