The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Travel Risk Assessment Committee (TRAC) reviews and advises the President and/or delegated authority on all international travel requests for authorization consideration. The TRAC may review various sources of information including but not limited to:
- Traveler’s application request
- Traveler’s supporting documents
- The CDC Health Advisory Notices
- The U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories (for international travel). The TRAC considers the Department of State advisory Level 3 and/or Level 4 risky for the international traveler and will not recommend authorization for approval. A Level 3 travel advisory may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
International travel requests are reviewed for health and safety considerations. The decision by the TRAC on a travel request is final. The TRAC has representation from the Office of General Counsel, the Office of Risk Management and Safety, the Office of Student Conduct, the faculty, and ex-officio representation from International Programs.
Essential Travel Considerations
International travel will be considered essential when critical to the core educational and business functions of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and if the purpose of the travel cannot be accomplished remotely.
Additionally, at least one of three following travel requirements is met:
- Time-sensitive: The purpose of travel cannot be accomplished at a later date (e.g., spring/summer semester);
- Purpose-specific: It is necessary to preserve the safety/well-being of research subjects and/or participants, or the continuity of research that cannot be repeated, replaced or performed remotely; OR
- Required: It must be completed in association with a grant, contract, award, or scholarship. For example, a Fulbright award, activities required by a funded research grant or other contractual obligations.
