The purpose of the Roland Sotero Endowed Scholarship is to provide financial support for undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at 51ԹϺ in healthcare administration in the School of Public Health.
Recipients may reapply for this scholarship in subsequent years, provided they maintain the scholarship criteria and remain in good standing with the institution. Any Change of Conditions to this document references the policies of the Board of Regents of the NSHE, the University.
The candidate(s) shall be selected by the School of Public Health (Scholarship Committee) from among those applying through Financial Aid and Scholarships (Office). If the Committee fails to determine an eligible candidate(s) for the scholarship(s), the Office shall make such determination. The Office shall administer the funding of the annual Roland Sotero Endowed Scholarship. Donors to the scholarship fund may not participate in the selection of students for this award.
The Roland Sotero Endowed Scholarship shall be awarded to an undergraduate student meeting the following criteria
- Students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher from high school, 51ԹϺ coursework, or from coursework at previous institutions as applicable
- Student must complete a 51ԹϺ Scholarship Application with a single page detailing the public health impact and the significance of their proposed research or capstone project on racial and ethnic health disparities or how the healthcare system and/or healthcare providers can eliminate health care inequalities for racial and ethnic populations
- Student must be formally admitted to 51ԹϺ and in good standing in the School of Public Health
- Preference shall be given to students who are members of underserved minority
Application Process
Students should submit the following application materials (no more than 1 page total) to scholarships.sph@unlv.edu no later than March 1, 2024:
- A 250 word essay on the driving factors behind your decision to study public health.
- Name and number of 51ԹϺ advisor that will be contacted.
- Email subject line should contain “LAST NAME and AWARD being applied to”
The awards will be given at the May 3rd, 2024 School of Public Health Honors Ceremony. Attendance is required.
Award Stipulations
Recipients of the Roland Sotero Endowed Scholarship grant(s) 51ԹϺ the right to publish their name and use the applicant’s likeness in a photograph in any and all of its publications, including website entries, without payment or any other consideration. These materials will become the property of 51ԹϺ and will not be returned. Recipients grant(s) 51ԹϺ the authority to edit, alter, copy, publish or distribute this photo for purpose of publicizing 51ԹϺ’s programs or for any other lawful purpose.
