Collaborative Research Across Institutions
When there are projects involving more than one institution, three different scenarios may occur: 1) there may be a joint review arrangement for addressing the human subjects research, 2) one institution may rely upon the review of another qualified IRB, or 3) the institutions can make similar arrangements for avoiding duplication of effort.
The most common collaborations at 51ԹϺ involve the Clark County School District (see Conducting Research with the Clark County School District for further instructions) or other NSHE institutions.
For collaborations with other NSHE institutions including DRI and UNR see “Notice of Intent to Rely on Another NSHE IRB”.
For collaborations with non-NSHE institutions principal investigators (PIs) can either submit to both IRBs for dual review or click on “Request to Rely on Another IRB” and complete the form. If the other institution agrees to single review rather than dual review, an IRB authorization agreement will need to be fully executed prior to initiation of the project. Once this agreement is fully executed the Office of Research Integrity – Human Subjects will send a memorandum to the PI indicating that the project may proceed.
Research at Other Facilities
When submitting a protocol for work at a non-NSHE facility, the PI must receive approval from the facility and attach that authorization to his/her protocol. See the Sample Facility Authorization Letter for more information.
