Asian, Pacific Islander, & Middle Eastern (APIME)
Welcome
The Program Coordinator for Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern (APIME) & International Programs is dedicated to serving the APIME and international student communities at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Their responsibilities include developing programs, conducting student workshops, and offering resources, all with the overarching goal of affirming, educating, and empowering students.
Programs
The following are key programs and services offered to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students:
Asian, Pacific Islander, & Middle Eastern (APIME) Heritage Month
51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ annually commemorates APIME Heritage Month every April, a celebration dedicated to affirming, acknowledging, and cherishing the rich tapestry of the APIME diaspora community. Be part of the planning for the APIME Heritage Month Main Event by reaching out to the APIME & International Program Coordinator.
Boba & Samosas APIME Meet Ups
Originally conceived as a forum for APIME students to share feedback about their campus experiences, this monthly series provides a platform for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern students to come together and discuss pertinent issues. Previous topics have delved into navigating family boundaries and addressing racist sentiments on campus.
Ramadan
In honor of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Muslim population, SDP hosts a Ramadan kickoff event. This may involve a week of passive programming to raise awareness or an Iftar, the traditional meal to break the fast. Everyone in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community is invited to participate in these events, irrespective of their faith or spiritual practice.
Diaspora Cultural Events
Aligned with 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's academic calendar and in collaboration with cultural RSOs, these events encompass celebrations like Lunar New Year (Spring Festival in China) and Holi (the Hindu festival of colors marking spring). Cultural RSOs interested in partnering with the APIME & International Programs team for hosting events can directly contact the Program Coordinator.
Don’t Be Racist: Racism and the APIME Community
"Don’t Be Racist" is a passive programming series designed to serve as both an educational resource and a starting point for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern students to engage in anti-racism efforts.
Resources
Under One Sky: The Resource for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern Students
This inaugural resource guide comprises historical snapshots, statistics, and resources on and off-campus for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern students, including a scholarship database, local restaurants and grocery stores, cultural hubs, legal and immigration assistance, and community organizations. This guide is not exhaustive, and the APIME & International Programs team is always looking for ways to improve this resource.
