*The diversity of participants in pipeline programs (i.e., dual enrollment, Paraprofessional Pathway Project, alternate route to licensure, residency programs, traditional educator preparation programs in teaching, school counseling, school social work, and educational leadership). Diversity defined as % BIPOC to keep at single variable.
Community Needs & Challenges
Solve Community Problems
A conceptual model was developed as to how to engage the community with a transdisciplinary approach that ultimately focuses on developing practice based research networks in the community. Addressing homelessness was the community problem chosen to address this year after adopting the twelve grand challenges of social work.
Framed through the American Academy of Social Work & Social Welfare (AASWSW), this subcommittee works “to champion social progress powered by science."
- Procured another GA and finished 51ԹϺ mapping 12 Grand Challenges to 51ԹϺ expert list.
- Continued to work on food insecurity app and consult legal regarding its development.
- Dr. Craig and Associates will continue on the Continuum of Care board as the university representative for southern Nevada.
- Hired two assistant professors in the school of social work who are experts on homelessness. Two projects with the city of Henderson and an agency addressing homeless in Las Vegas has been developed, and one of the Assistant Professors has applied for access to the HMIS data. Both are also sitting on several sub-committees for the COC.
- Continued to develop community partnerships and develop white papers for publication.
- Four different annotated bibliographies have been developed in the last year on the following subjects with aspirations to develop into systematic literature reviews for publications. The four subjects are: Domestic Violence (DV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), Homelessness among people of color, Urban resiliency in the Last 20 years, and Trauma in Journalistic Reporting.
- Presented at two national and one regional conferences on model developed and activities generated for this sub-committee.
- Continue collaborations with Urban Affairs schools/departments on Youth Homeless Summit (third summit was in November, 2019) turn white papers into publication.
- Continue socialization of the academic community to the problem-based network model.
- Dr. Craig contributed chapter to the Book: Healing Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden.
