Qualifications

In order to participate and complete the U.S. Air Force ROTC program at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, you will need to meet and maintain the following Qualifications:

  • Be a full-time student at the , , or University of Nevada Las Vegas.
  • Enroll and participate in both the Aerospace Studies classes and Leadership laboratories each semester.
  • Be age 14 or older (minimum age for enlistment is 17; minimum age for commissioning is 18; maximum commissioning age for Flying career fields is 32, for non-flying is 42.
  • Be of good moral character without serious or excessive civil involvements.
  • Pass the .
  • Pass a Department of Defense medical examination.
  • Pass physical fitness requirements.
  • Successfully complete field training.
  • Maintain required GPA standards. 2.5 for scholarship cadets / 2.0 for all others (All attempted college courses count towards GPA calculation.)
    • Scholarship retention — 2.5 (term) and 2.5 (cumulative) on a 4.0 scale (pre-health GPA is 3.5)
  • Receive a "C" or better in all aerospace studies courses and pass all leadership labs.
  • Receive an enrollment allocation into the Professional Officer Course.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or working towards U.S. citizenship

The following would prohibit a person from  AFROTC membership but does not preclude any student from enrolling in an Aerospace Studies class:

  • Conscientious objectors
  • Present or former commissioned officers
  • Officers of the Health Services and Mental Health Administration and members of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  • Previous history of certain medical conditions or ongoing treatment
  • Students who do not meet or cannot maintain required standards of weight, appearance, decorum, discipline, and military performance
  • Individuals disenrolled from a previous officer training program (regardless of military branch)

Be ACCEPTED & enrolled full time (12 credit hours) at the , or University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Complete the official Air Force ROTC application. .

Once Steps 1-4 are completed, Email us at afrotc@unlv.edu for further guidance. Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve servicemembers must submit a letter of recommendation from their unit commander attesting to their physical fitness, character, and potential to be a commissioned officer in the Air Force or Space. Once we receive your email, we will perform a quality review of your questionnaire and WINGS application and inform you of our decision.

If we recommend you for entry into our program, then you will:

  • Sign up for an in-person interview & in-processing prior to the term start date (instructions will be provided in the acceptance email).
  • Register for the appropriate Aerospace Studies classes (info will be provided during in-processing).

We are open for walk-ins from 0800-1500, Monday through Friday on 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's campus, however, appointments are encouraged to ensure our cadre will be available to meet with you. We may also be able to spend some one-on-one time answering any questions you might have about the program. Ultimately, we'll do our best to answer any questions you have and to help you decide whether joining Air Force ROTC and Detachment 004 is right for you.
