Our advisors take an active role in assisting you throughout your academic career at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. We recommend you meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure appropriate progress toward your degree.
Advisors are assigned by the graduate coordinator and are usually your major teacher. If you are a new graduate student, schedule an appointment with your advisor before registering for classes to determine your course of study. You will be advised upon matriculation as to which, if any, areas need special attention.
Advisory committee chairs and Graduate College representatives serving on advisory committees must have full graduate faculty status. Graduate advisory committee members must hold full or associate status. A list of all graduate faculty, both full and associate, may be found on the Graduate College website.
Master of Music Advisory Committee
After completion of 12 to 16 credit hours, the advisory committee is selected by your advisor, who also usually serves as the committee chair. The Master of Music Advisory Committee is composed of three School of Music faculty members and a Graduate College representative. The Graduate College representative is chosen from the full graduate faculty status list and is not a member of the School of Music faculty.
Doctor of Music Advisory Committee
The DMA committee is composed of four School of Music faculty members and a Graduate College representative, with at least one music faculty member outside the student’s area of concentration. The Graduate College representative is chosen from the full graduate faculty status list. Prior to establishing and submitting the proposed degree program, submit the Appointment of Advisory Committee form to the Graduate College.
