March was a month of change for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. In response to the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. and Nevada, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ made adjustments to daily university life in order to protect what is most important — the health and well-being of faculty, staff, and students.
The university transitioned all classes to online instruction, asked staff to work remotely, and streamlined services for students as part of a larger, nationwide response to follow social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines and help keep the virus at bay.
Though the coronavirus pandemic has upended daily life, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ is doing its part to provide help to those who need it through services like curbside testing, and faculty researchers are helping to make sense of the virus by offering expertise to local, regional, and national media.

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Transitions to Remote Instruction
Following the guidance of Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, local officials, and the Southern Nevada Health District, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ transitioned to online course instruction following Spring Break on March 23. Though daily life for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students and staff has changed, the university made this adjustment to ensure the health and safety of faculty and students, while also ensuring the opportunity for Rebels to continue their academic pursuits at the university.

Brian Labus, assistant professor in 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s School of Public Health, was named to Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak’s coronavirus task force to help advise him on the scientific aspects of the coronavirus pandemic. To help the worldwide effort in fighting the coronavirus, the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ School of Medicine’s clinical arm began offering testing for the coronavirus last month.
