51ԹϺ announced it will create a new institute dedicated to the study of Chinese language and culture after receiving a $15 million donation from Las Vegas Sands. The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents last week formally approved the new Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture at 51ԹϺ.

The only person to survive the Dec. 6, 2023, shooting rampage at 51ԹϺ said the school must continue with courage. 51ԹϺ honored and remembered on Friday the three professors killed a year ago. “A year ago, my life was nearly taken by an act of evil. Through this tragic incident, I found a way to survive,” Daraboth Rith said. “We are far stronger than we ever realize.”
