Be prepared to laugh when 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ professor Robert K. Dodge talks about "How to LIKE Poetry" on Oct. 13 on the university campus.
Dodge, a professor of English, presents an irreverent and exciting way of looking at poetry. He believes that most people have been taught that poetry is supposed to be work. He hates that idea and wants to change people's perceptions.
In keeping with the light-hearted nature of the evening -- as well as with Dodge's view that poetry and music are very closely linked -- group singing may be encouraged.
Dodge's presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Frank and Estella Beam Hall, Room 241. Part of the University Forum lecture series, it is free and open to the public.
Among the poets Dodge is likely to quote are Walt Whitman and Wallace Stevens. He also might include Kenneth Koch's parody of the Stevens' piece "This Is Just to Say."
