WHAT: The University of Nevada, Las Vegas will officially inaugurate David B. Ashley as its eighth president. President Ashley will give an inaugural address outlining his strategic vision for the university.
WHEN: Friday, April 27, 2007, at 10 a.m.
Broadcast media may set up as early as 8 a.m.
President Ashley's inaugural address will begin at approximately 10:35 a.m.
WHERE: Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ
Marked media vehicles may park curbside along the south side of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Foundations Building (bldg. 86 on attached map). All other media vehicles, marked or unmarked, may park in the garage near Maryland Pkwy. and Cottage Grove Ave. entrance. See attached map for more details.
DETAILS: President Ashley, who officially took office July 1, 2006, will reflect on the past accomplishments of the university and offer a detailed vision for the future. Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons will provide opening remarks. Federal, state and local dignitaries will be in attendance. The inauguration ceremony will be the first event of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's 50th anniversary celebration.
Ceremonial traditions reserved for higher education institutions will be honored during the inauguration, including the use of the official university mace to lead a procession of academic faculty in full regalia, and a welcoming of past 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ presidents and visiting dignitaries.
