In 2016, University Police Services worked alongside university stakeholders to implement policies expressly establishing standards, procedures, and coordination of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV).
The installation and operation of surveillance cameras and requests for viewing video recordings at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is governed by the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Audio & Video Recording Policy. The policy lists four criteria on which potential installation of surveillance equipment will be evaluated:
- Criteria 1 - Enhance public safety and security, while reducing the costs incurred by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in the promotion of campus security, and promote compliance with any federal and state statutes related to security.
- Criteria 2 - Aid instruction and/or facilitate its delivery to remote locations, as well as enable video conferencing among remote sites.
- Criteria 3 - Prevent, deter or halt criminal activity, and facilitate criminal investigations and police actions to safeguard citizens.
- Criteria 4 - Help manage emergency response situations during natural and man-made disasters and to assist 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ officials in providing services to the community.
