The mission of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is to ensure that all potentially hazardous biological materials utilized at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ facilities are given appropriate review and oversight, and to promote the practice of safe biological research for the protection of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ IBC is responsible for oversight of university policies and procedures regarding use of potentially hazardous biological materials on campus, including recombinant DNA, infectious materials, human materials, and toxins.

All institutional biosafety committees, including the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ IBC, are charged under the with providing local review and oversight of research utilizing recombinant DNA. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has chosen to expand the IBC duties to include reviewing all research involving biohazards conducted at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ facilities.
