University Medical Center (UMC)

If you have been sexually assaulted, or think you have been but are not sure, you are encouraged to go to UMC for an exam by a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE). Go to the Adult Emergency Department and tell them at the time of check-in at triage that you are there for the SANE exam. There is never a charge to you for undergoing the SANE exam at UMC hospital. This is true even if you do not have any type of insurance.

Emergency Room Entrance

  • The evidence collected from a rape kit will be necessary if you decide to press charges later.
  • If you have been sexually assaulted, please do not: bathe, shower, douche, change clothes, smoke, or brush your teeth until you have spoken with a medical provider.
  • You may still seek medical care if you have done any of these things. If you changed clothes, bring the clothes you were wearing in a paper bag or pillow case to the hospital with you.
