Scene Shop

The theatre department at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ operates a state-of-the-art 2200-square-foot scene shop equipped with the latest in wood and metal working technologies. Everything from rough, layout carpentry to finish carpentry can be accommodated in the shop.

The Shop Features

  • MIG and TIG welding on both mild steel and aluminum routinely done in the shop.
  • Ring rollers, pipe, and tubing benders and hand and hand power tools needed in working with steel framed scenery.
  • Access to a CNC router, a computer-controlled hotwire foam cutter, and a full machine shop for fabrication of scenery and props.
  • A 42 feet long, 26 feet high, counterweighted/winch assist wooden framed paint frame which can be lowered to 18 feet below floor level and raised to 27 feet above floor level for ease of painting large scale backdrops.
Costume Shop

Costume Shop

The costume shop is a well-organized space of approximately 30 feet by 60 feet, with high ceilings and windows, adjacent to the Judy Bayley Theatre.

The Shop Features

  • Seven industrial and domestic sewing machines, a fitting area, two oversized movable cutting tables, a variety of mannequins and lots of storage on three walls for supplies and costume accessories.
  • A laundry facility, shop manager's work area, and more craft and supply.
  • Two large adjacent dressing rooms for men and women each with a dozen well-lit makeup stations.
  • A separate storage room in the same building houses hat stock as well as shoes from all periods.
