A law professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas said the fact that relatively few women serve on the boards of directors for gaming operator poses a strong risk to operators an their shareholders.

The board of Wynn Resorts is weighing its options, as the company looks to its future without former chairman and CEO Steve Wynn. The casino mogul stepped down a week ago Tuesday, after a decades-long sex scandal came to a head and rocked the company to its core.

The boards of Las Vegas’ six largest gaming employers have just eight women among their 57 directors, and only two of the boards have female representation that is higher than the 21.2 percent average for S&P 500 companies, according to Catalyst, a nonprofit advocate for women in business.

The board of Wynn Resorts Ltd. is weighing its options in figuring out its next step, experts say.
