Come check out our new Climbing Area
About our Facility
- The climbing facility was designed and built by Enterprise Climbing Walls to fulfill a request by the student body for a climbing facility.
- Our bouldering wall has approximately 770 sq. feet of climbable surface area. The Bouldering Wall stands thirteen (13) feet tall and is surrounding by a twelve (12) inch thick bouldering pad made by UCS with 1050 ballistic nylon.
- Our climbing wall stands 43 feet tall (one of the tallest indoor climbing walls is the Las Vegas area). The climbing wall has six (6) total anchor lines, including two (2) auto-belays.. The entire wall will be equipped with permanent quick draws for lead climbing.
- The climbing facility staff reset the problems and routes on a bi-weekly schedule so there will always be fresh climbs to try!
- Boulder problems and routes are set to all experience levels. Beginners to advanced climbers are welcome!

- Prizes and awards will begin after all score cards are submitted or as close to 9:00pm as possible. Competitors are not required to be present if they win, however prices are first come first serve from the prize table.
- If a competitor is not present to be recognized, a prize will be selected for them from the remaining prize pool based on input from those that are present and can be picked up in the OA office the following week.
- There will be three different climbing divisions based on your skill set which will be determined by the following guidelines. It is up to the individual to determine their preferred division to compete in. If the climber is a regular climber known to the Outdoor Recreation staff then the staff may place the climber where we feel is appropriate. Please do not sand-bag your division.
- Beginner Category: (V0-V2) Beginners are defined as entry level climbers with limited or no experience climbing or competing in any style climbing competition. Beginner routes are fairly straight-forward and are easy to distinguish the desired moves. Holds are generally large to medium size and multiple feet are included. Most beginner routes will allow climbers to utilize the wall but will include multiple feet placements. These routes are Ramstein ODR White and Green Routes.
- Intermediate Category: (V3-V5) Intermediate climbers are those climbers who would define themselves as “weekend-warriors.” These climbers climb on a regular basis and are comfortable climbing a wide range of climbs, both indoors and outdoors. Intermediate routes consist of medium to small holds which may be oriented in an awkward way and are not as straight forward to read. Routes will have fewer feet placements and may utilize wall features as hand holds. These routes may incorporate difficult starts and typically will be longer or on steeper terrain. Ramstein ODR color routes comparison too blue and yellow.
- Advanced/Open Category: (V6+) Advanced climbers are those people who have been climbing for a long time, or dedicate a majority of their time to climbing. They are comfortable leading outdoor climbs or boulder outdoors and indoors weekly. Advanced routes consist of hard to hold hand holds which may be medium to extra small. Climbs most always will include difficult moves, have limited to no feet, and fewer climbing holds. These routes may be taller climbs and on very steep overhangs.
- All start holds and finish holds will be taped with a box. Only mono-chromatic corresponding colored holds can be touched with a foot or hand. Additionally, wall features and any volume can be used as feet or hand holds unless specifically indicated otherwise. Any holds can be used for a hand or foot hold at any point. Not all holds need to be touched in order to successfully complete the route.
- A “30, 15, and 5 minute warning” will be given near the end of each time block. At the end of the five minutes, climbers still on the wall will be allowed to continue. All other climbers MUST turn in their scorecard.
- Climbers may try as many routes as they wish, or as time allows. Climbers declare their intention to attempt a route by standing in line of the route desired.
- All start holds are indicated with a “box” and end with a “box”. The climber must start with both hands on the start hold, and finish with both hands on the finishing hold to demonstrate successful completion. If two “box”s are present for the start, than one hand must be on each starting hold.
- An attempt is initiated after both feet have left the ground regardless of successful control of following sequential hold. If a climbers comes off without making the next subsequent move than that counts as a failed attempt.
- Upon successful completion of a route, the climber will “X” the appropriate spot for the number of attempts. A different climber must initial as the “witness” that they saw the route successfully completed by the owner of the score card for it to count.
- In the event that a hold not “on-route” is touched with either a hand or foot, regardless of whether it is weighted or not, the climber must descent and start over, and will be deducted one attempt from their score card.
- Rules and instructions, “Beta”, regarding a route may be given by anyone prior to a competitor’s attempt if asked for. After the climber initiates their first move no further “Beta” can be given during the duration of their attempt.
- A Route Judge may order an attempt ended if he or she decides that to proceed further would contravene the regulations regarding safety.
- The refusal by a competitor to obey the instruction of a Route Judge to terminate their attempt on a route shall result in the disqualification of the competitor.
- In the event that a hold spins or loosens:
- The climber can choose to come off the problem immediately and the attempt will not count towards an attempt on the problem. They will indicate to the route setter of a loose hold which will be tightened and they can attempt the route again.
- The climber can choose to continue climbing past the loose hold. After initiating the next sequential move regardless of their success or failure on the attempt it will count towards their overall attempt.
- This is a flash/red point competition. Points are awarded for each route or problem completed without falling. Climbers are allowed an infinite number of attempts per route; however, each consecutive attempt is worth fewer points. After 5 unsuccessful attempts on a specific route point value will no longer drop but for completion a minimum completed point value may be obtained.
- Your top three scoring routes completed will be included only for your point total. The harder the route, the higher the points.
- Climbers are allowed to climb outside of their designated division. However, if the climber climbs more than the lowest rated route in the next higher division then they will automatically be bumped into the next highest division for scoring purposes.
- Depending on point total accumulation, you MAY be bumped into the next highest division if your point total is higher than the lowest point value for the next higher division. This should only conflict if there are fewer than 3 people entered per division.
- In case of a tie, the climber who had fewer attempts will place higher. If a tie still remains, climbers will climb a route of the next highest category. The climber who has completed this more advanced route will win.
- Prizes are given to the top-overall finisher and runner up per identified gender group and division categories.
- All competitors who register, regardless of finishing any route are eligible for prizes through the raffle.
- A technical incident is:
- A broken or spinning hold
- Tape stuck to a shoe
- An open wound
- Anything else that creates an unfair disadvantage to a competitor that is not the result of an action on the part of the competitor
- If a technical incident occurs, the climber may re-climb the route from the beginning without penalty
- It is your responsibility to ensure that your clothing, chalk bag, and other equipment is properly secured. There are no grounds for a technical incident if the above-mentioned items impede the climber.
- If a competitor does not agree with the score, he or she must appeal to the Chief Judge.
- The following infringements may result in the immediate disqualification of the competitor from the competition:
- The use of non-approved equipment.
- Distracting or interfering with any competitor, who is preparing for, or attempting, a route. o Distracting or interfering with any official while they are carrying out their duties.
- Failure to comply with the instructions of the official judges and/or the organizer’s officials.
- The use of prohibited drugs, and/or use of alcohol at any point during the event, including but not limited to, registration, and check-in is considered unsporting behavior.
